Prison Radio & KRJF-lp are teaming up!
For 25 years, Prison Radio has aired the voices of groundbreaking U.S. political prisoners. We're now partnering with KRJF-lp - the Redwood Justice Fund’s own radio station - to reach 300,000 California listeners and build out our media platform.
Together, we're running 60 day Capital Campaign to raise $60,000 so that we can expand our media platform and imapct by:
Launching an independent low-power FM radio station in Santa Rosa, CA
Upgrading our recording equipment in the East Coast studio
Expanding our website media platform
Producing a podcast channel, and
Completing a 25-year Strategic Planning Process
And we need your help to turn the power on! You can make sure that the radio you want to hear is piped into your living room (in CA), or streamed onto your phone. Please join us and become a founding member of KRJF-lp by making a gift today.
Help us Raise $60,000 to Amplify Prisoners Voices!
We are building a radio station, podcast channel, studio upgrade, improved website, and more. Here is specifically what your contribution will be making happen:
KRJF-lp will launch a 300,000 listener-wide independent, low-FM radio station in Santa Rosa, CA, the home of Prison Radio’s parent non-profit The Redwood Justice Fund. This station will focus on broadcasting and amplifying prisoners’ hidden, stolen, and suppressed voices that are otherwise unheard. $20K
Prison Radio's website has the potential to reach a wider audience, and now’s the time to do it. We will be making our site more interactive, user-friendly, and effective at showcase commentaries, news, and organizing actions. As a result, radio stations and listeners will have easier access to airing prisoners’ commentaries. As a media-based organization, we know revamping our website will have a measurable impact on the broadcasting of our commentaries.
Prison Radio is also in the midst of an externally-consulted 25-year Strategic Planning Process. The end result of the process will be clear, concise, and achievable visions and goals as we move towards the freedom of political prisoners and amplification of prisoners’ critical messages from inside, in addition to shifting leadership and organizing strategies as we move forward towards setting the stage for abolition.
Finalizing Prison Radio’s East Coast Studio upgrade! While our East Coast studio has the capacity to edit commentaries, we cannot record them at the moment. We urgently need to analyze, replace and build out our new Digital Phone Recording equipment. Please help us get our studio back up and running!
Let's Keep Winning- Together
WE'RE READY TO BUILD ON OUR SUCCESSES
Prison Radio is part of this KRJF-lp’s effort to build out a radio station because we do not believe in prison walls. We believe that people in prison must play a central role in contributing to our media, and informing our day to day struggle against all forms of oppressions.
We are confident when KRJF-lp’s producers air the voices of political prisoners, incarcerated women, trans, and queer folks, people held in solitary confinement, youth serving life sentences, and undocumented activists, a shift of consciousness in listeners will unfold, and our commitments to building alternatives to incarceration, alongside of prisoners, will strengthen.
Airing the voices of those silenced by the state is no easy task, and we can't do it alone. With your support, KRJF-lp and Prison Radio will broadcast people reporting from inside prisons on local radio stations, national networks, and international channels. You make it possible to hear from prisoners like Mumia Abu-Jamal, Kerry Shakaboona Marshall, Lisa Strawn, Jaan Laaman, and over 100 others reporting in the global media. Let's build on our successes even further, and expand the amplification of our recordings!
We Are the Media
AND WE’RE READY TO MAKE A BIGGER IMPACT
There is one single reason that we've been able to do this work: people power. Prisoners' testimonies can only be heard on the airwaves when those of us on the outside step up and pitch in.
That's why we're asking for your help to raise $60,000 by April 6, 2017. Your contribution today will turn up the volume on incarcerated voices that are crucial to the fabric of democracy.
We’re asking you to step up and bring the voices from inside prisons to our media, classrooms, homes and movements. Let's challenge the U.S. prison system, institutionalized racism and modern-day slavery by humanizing and uplifting the voices of those most impacted. Please join us today with a contribution to strengthen the impact and capacity of Prison Radio and Redwood Justice Fund Station. Help us share their stories and shape our media.
Thank you. We are energized to be making our Capital Campaign dreams come true with you.
